Who can participate?

To join the NAR, you must meet a number of conditions. You can also apply to the Netherlands Autism Register if you do not have autism yourself.

The following individuals may participate in the NAR:

  • Individuals who themselves have autism and are 16 years of age or older;
  • Parent(s) and/or caregiver(s) of a child with autism under 16 years of age;
  • (Legal) representatives of persons with autism and a major care need (with or without an intellectual disability), who are legally incompetent and over 16 years of age.

Participation without autism

Even if you do not have autism yourself, you can register for the Netherlands Autism Register. By comparing experiences of people with and without autism, we can better understand what autism is and how autistic people can be supported. You can apply for the control group of the Netherlands Autism Register if you meet these three conditions:

  • you do not have autism;
  • you are 16 years or older;
  • you do not have an immediate family member with autism (such as a brother, sister, father, mother, son, daughter).

Unfortunately, if you do not meet all three conditions, you cannot participate in the NAR control group. However, you can tell the person with autism or parent/legal representative of the person with autism about the Netherlands Autism Register.

By comparing the experiences of people with and without autism, we can better understand what autism means.
