The Dutch Autism Association (NVA) and the Vrije Universiteit jointly established the Netherlands Autism Register (NAR). Previous surveys from the NVA provided a lot of useful information but until then there was no research institute that collected information about people with autism on a similar scale. Therefore, the NAR was established. People could register as participants for our annual questionnaires from this point on.
Working with annual questionnaires
The Netherlands Autism Register (NAR) maps the differences and similarities between autistic people in cooperation with people with autism (co-creation). We collect basic information on things like personal and family characteristics, diagnostics, treatment and support, education, independence, and how autistic people participate in society.
Using this data and figures, we can explore, for example, what makes people with autism unique. What is needed for autistic people's talents to reach their full potential? What other issues, such as treatment and parenting situation, affect this?
Our research helps to find answers to these and many other questions. Read more about autism research at the NAR.
