All the information about applying to the Netherlands Autism Register.

Would you like to participate in our research?

You can register for the Netherlands Autism Register if you belong to one of the 4 groups below and are currently living in the Netherlands.

  • I have autism myself and am 16 years or older.
  • I am the parent or caregiver of a child with autism younger than 16.
  • I am the (legal) representative of a person with autism and a severe care need, who is legally incompetent and older than 16.
  • I do not have autism myself and am 16 years of age or older and I do not have an immediate family member with autism (such as a brother, sister, father, mother, child).

You can apply by clicking the appropriate application form on the application page under the heading "General Application.

This will take you to a secure page where you can leave your personal information. By filling out this form you do not commit yourself to anything, but you give us permission to contact you by e-mail to fill out a questionnaire and you indicate that you have understood what participation means to you. On average, this questionnaire will take about 30 minutes to complete.

If you register before January 1st 2026, you will be invited to the annual survey in February 2026.

Good to know ...

1. In principle, people aged 16 and over may decide for themselves whether they want to register with the Dutch Autism Register. If you are 16-18 years old, we advise you to ask your parents if they approve of you applying.

2. When a child is younger than 16 years old, only the parents and/or guardians can register the child. For children over 14 years old, as a parent you may consider completing the questionnaire together with your son/daughter.

3. A legal representative is someone who may act and decide for the person with autism in areas where the person is incapacitated. The representative should involve the person with autism as much as possible.

4. Even if you do not have autism yourself, you can still apply for the control group of the Dutch Autism Register. By comparing the experiences of people with and without autism, we can better understand what autism is and how people with autism can be supported.
